Secret #1 – Professional traders are not geniuses- they simply follow a simple forex trading system

You see it correctly, they are not any smarter than you nor do they possess of any god-like foresight in forex trading. I dare to say this because I know some professional forex traders who seem to know nothing in this world and clumsy in doing other stuffs but can do extremely well in forex trading. Why is that so?

It’s simply because they have a successful forex trading system which gives them good forex trading signals. It helps them trade consistently. What they have to do is to repeat the consistency just by following the trading system. That’s about all. And let me tell you a little more secret, professional traders use simple forex trading systems instead complicated, as what most people thought.

Secret #2 – Learn to work smart, not hard

Do you think that you should learn how to trade forex the hard way and gain all the knowledge before you can be successful? Do you think you can master the forex market if you combine all the strategies taught by every forex trading experts? If your answer is yes, you are wrong. In other businesses, you may get rewarded for all the efforts and time you have put into.

But in forex trading, it’s the right forex trading tutorials and education that count and you are rewarded for being accurate and not so much for the effort you put in. You will be surprised to know that successful traders only follow a winning trading system blindly to build up their trading capital.

Secret #3 – They possess determination, discipline, money management and mindset for success

My professional forex trader friend once told me that he would leave everything aside just to concentrate on his forex trading. It’s his determination to succeed that made him overcome small losses and steep learning curves that he experienced in the beginning. He told me the problem with most traders is that they are too eager to trade and make money fast from the forex market.

You need to have discipline to follow the rules of your forex trading system. Huge capital gains in forex are piled up over years and not days, there is no shortcut to riches. He manages his money so well that even 2 or 3 losses in a row will not affect his trading capital much. 1% or even 0.5% of his capital margin per trade is what he is only willing to risk.

Not everyone can be a professional trader in a short period of time as you need huge capital, but anyone can become successful in forex trading if you learn how to trade forex the professional way.

This might sound a little repetitive if you’ve read all of my blog posts about the Forex market, but it seems like every commercial you see on television about trading the Forex is touting day trading as the easy way of trading the Forex. There is no easy way to trade the Forex market, and day trading Forex currency is definitely not for the beginning Forex trading. Day trading is an advanced strategy and shouldn’t be jumped into by inexperienced traders, regardless of how easy any commercial makes it appear.

Day trading the Forex might be a popular fad style right now, and there probably are Forex traders who make some decent money with this style, but the very nature of day trading with all the short term trades makes it more difficult to have accurate technical analysis of the upcoming trends.

You may avoid most of the major losses by having such short term trades, but you’ll also miss out on any major breakouts that could have made you far more money with a long term strategy.

The same leverage that allows for decent profit to make on a lot of short term trades is the same leverage that can also cause you to lose money on a lot of short term trades. Some inexperienced traders tend to believe the short term trades act as a hedge to protect you, but this isn’t the case. Day trading is not any safer than long term trades. If anything, they’re more dangerous.

Day trading is all around the short time, and requires an enormous amount of attention, skill, and concentration. While there are probably many Forex traders who prefer this method, the real money to be made is learning how to use technical and fundamental analysis on longer trades where you can take advantage of channel breakouts.

Without ever taking advantage of the breakouts in the Forex market, day trading Forex currency will never be able to match the profits of traders who have systems that allow them to take advantage of long term runs in the currency market.

While there is certainly a place for day trading the Forex, there are just other Forex trading systems that could offer more profits with less risk.

If you’re dead set on day trading, make sure you understand the intricacies of the Forex market first to make sure you understand the markets before jumping to advanced Forex trading strategies like day trading.

In the previous article we covered some of general attributes of trading Forex. Those included liquidity, long term trends, availability of information or fundamental news, 24 H access and Forex as a tool for diversification. Here we are going to look at some very trading specific aspects advantages of getting involved in this market.

Demo accounts- all of forex brokers offer demo accounts. These are virtual accounts, with no real money, which simulate live trading. On most platforms these accounts track live prices tick by tick. You can practice trading, test your strategies and hone your skills without risking real money. Except for emotional impact, trading in these accounts is exactly like live trading. Fantastic tool, not just for beginners, but also for seasoned traders. Outside of Forex, very few brokers offer something like that.

Technical tools- all currencies trading platforms contain a wide range of technical analytical tools. Vast majority of these services are free with an account. Some will be more complex, some less, but in most cases there is more than an average trader will ever use. These tools are getting increasingly more complex. It’s not unusual for a trader to have the possibility to write very complex automated trading strategies right into their trading platform. Generally speaking there is no need to have any paid for, stand alone software package. Brokers’ free offerings are more than adequate.

Leverage- Forex trading accounts are margined. Trader can use leverage to increase his buying power. While most other financial instruments can be bought and sold using leverage, nothing comes close to currencies markets. Industry standard is leverage availability of 100:1, but even 400:1 can be found. While it’s not advisable to use extreme leverage, it’s good to have the choice. This way account size can be fine tuned with position size. Once a trader is comfortable in his/her trading, there is nothing wrong with using reasonable leverage.

No slippage- this is something unique to Forex markets. Some brokers go as far as to GUARANTEE no slippage on all limit and stop orders. This means that you always know precisely your risks and potential gain. No slippage guarantees are simply unavailable, and even illegal in other markets. From practical standpoint, during fast moving markets one might experience an occasional slippage on market orders. Comparing to futures or even stocks, active trader will experience far less, if any slipped trades.

No additional liability- an average retail trader has no financial liabilities, outside of the money already on deposit. What does it mean? For example, in futures markets, events like “limit days” will halt trading, making it impossible to get out of loosing position. That can lead to losses far in excess of money on deposit. Trader can not only loss all the money in the account, but even be liable for more. In Forex markets brokers take this unlikely risk, in affect indemnifying retail traders from additional losses. Most people don’t even know about it, but look on your brokers website carefully.

Large daily moves- currencies can, and often do, move a lot on intraday bases. That, of course changes and is not constant, but as of this writing JPY crosses have wild daily swings. Over last couple of weeks, for example, average daily range in EUR-JPY has been more 200 pips. Current JPY pip value is about $8.50 trading standard 100K lot. This translates to daily moves approaching $2000 in value. GBP-JPY moves even more.

There is plenty of good daily opportunities if short term trading is your thing.

This is not a complete list, as every participant in Forex markets has his/her own reasons for trading here. Depending on what person looks for in trading instruments, currencies offer some advantages over more traditional financial vehicles, as well as a few unique opportunities. While there is always a possibility of loss, no wonder more and more traders gravitate towards this fascinating frontier.

What's a respectable pip haul for a single trade? I have the self control to not get greedy, but I don't know where the line is. I also realize I could do a trailing stop, but I feel more comfortable locking in my profit when I have it.
